Wheel of Misfortune
Wheel of Misfortune
Can it get worse? Probably not.
Legends say there’s a wheel up in the sky that decides our fate. Spin the wheel and see what the new year is going to bring, you might get a pleasant surprise..
As the world stumbled into 2021, still reeling from the chaos of the previous year, we decided to greet the new year with a dose of humor. Maybe a bit dark..
But no one laughed…
The “Wheel of Misfortune” was an interactive digital experience, a reference of “Wheel of Fortune” game, but with a darkly humorous twist. Instead of cash and prizes, each spin revealed a potential disaster waiting to strike in 2021.
The wheel served as a playful yet ironic commentary on the unpredictability of life, with a reassuring message that these misfortunes wouldn’t actually come to pass, paired with some light-hearted merchandise to drive the joke home.
But, of course, it wasn’t a good time for jokes…
To bring the “Wheel of Misfortune” to life, we designed a series of unique illustrations for each potential disaster that the wheel could land on. These visuals captured the humor and irony of each imagined catastrophe, from meteor strikes to zombie apocalypses, all rendered in a playful style.
We didn’t stop there—we took these illustrations and turned them into merchandise, including T-shirts, mugs, and posters. The idea was to let people wear or display a bit of the absurdity, making light of the tough times we were all experiencing and maybe some Christmas gifts…
But we didn’t sell even a single one…
In the end, the “Wheel of Misfortune” became a reflection of the times—an attempt to find humor in the midst of uncertainty, even if the world wasn’t quite ready to laugh along. While our playful spin on disaster predictions may not have landed as intended, it remains a reminder of the importance of resilience and the human spirit’s need for connection and levity, even in the darkest of times.
